Production of the week #2

For the second edition of track of the week, we have a masterpiece and one of the most celebrated tracks from the dutch progfather LEMON8 aka Harry Lemon.

Like many of Harry Lemon’s productions, this one is over 9 minutes of excellence, and a refreshing reminder of how simplicity is key. Throughout the track, you can hear beautiful bitcrushing on the bass and pads, commonly heard on older digital or hybrid synths, usually due to low bitrate chips or digital clipping. The likes of the Yamaha CS1-X often have these artefacts when driving the filter with resonance.

The track starts of relatively simple, but the drums and percs all fit together so well. The bass (or basses I should say) is really where the groove comes in, alternating between longer and shorter notes adds to much groove. The pads in this track really shine too, the high resonance almost picks individual notes from each chord and lets the shine for a brief moment, before catching the next resonating frequency.

Of course, the star of the show is that weird, freaky acid plucking arp. Only one note, but alternating octaves beautifully and chaotically. It’s like that one guy at the rave who is super pinged with the strangest dance moves, a bit weird but an absolute vibe lifter.

Overall a beautiful combination of elements from progressive house and tribal, a golden track from the golden era of prog.

“So much energy in this track it’s running my fridge and TV with the break alone” - Someone on youtube.
